This page was added after some of the members of our post attended the first ever ceremony was held by MIAP at the Fort Smith National Cemetery on 4 March 2022. This organization find deceased military personnel and spouses that for any number of possible reasons their remains were never claimed. They then arrange for these people to received the proper honors and burial due them for either their service in the military or being the spouse of a former military personnel. The first two images are of the pamphlet for Missing In America Project while the second two images are of the program handed out at the ceremony held at the Fort Smith National Cemetery on 4 March 2022. If you click on an image you will be able to see the whole image.

Missing In America Project Mission Statement

The purpose of the Missing In America Project is to locate, identify, and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state, and federal organizations. To provide honor, respect, and dignity to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.

This is a lengthy project and requires many hours to ensure that we have done our utmost to discover every forgotten veteran and procure each a dignified resting place. This is also a labor of love, a task of redemption for a debt of service that can never be repaid.

In its fourteen-year history, the Missing In America Project has visited more than 2,537 funeral homes, locating 27,020 remains which 5,804 were veterans and eligible dependents. Vets interred 5,228 and 576 returned to families.

The Missing In America Project has also assisted volunteers in getting laws passed in thirty states. These laws are designed to protect funeral homes when working with MIAP.
